Croatian Language

"Much more than you have sown will grow in your garden." - Croatian Proverb

Croatian court translatorCroatia is located in Southern Europe, between Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is populated by approximately 5 million people. The Croatian language belongs to the South Slavic language which is used by the natives of Croatia. It is also the official language of Bosnia and Herzegovina and other neighbouring countries.

It is believed that the written Croatian language has started when Old Slavonic was adopted as the religious language of choice. It was not until the early 19th century that a standardised written Croatian language, based on Latin script, was developed: a movement founded by Ljudevit Gaj. He implemented the Illyrian movement which chose to the Stokavian dialect as a basis for written Croatian.

The Serbian, Bosnian and Croatian languages are all very similar when spoken. The three languages differ in vocabulary. The differences occur in the written language as the Serbian language uses a Cyrillic alphabet while Croatian language is based on the Latin alphabet.

On the 1st of July 2013, Croatia became a member of European Union that opened the doors for its people to have all the benefits and access to all information that the European Union provides.
